At the marketplace, the boy saw many different people, each with a mask on.
He realised that some of them, like his mother, seem uncomfortable but had the
mask hide their true emotions. Soon after, they arrived at a store and the mum
got the boy to choose a mask. They buy that mask, and the boy has been using
it ever since.
As the kid grew up, he had his family too. It was time for his own daughter to get
her own mask and enter society, and the now grown-up boy brings her out to
buy it.
Setting: Victorian Era upper-middle class town in Europe
